HOLY MOLY! What a great week! Currently I am on my fifth day of being in The Big Apple, and loving every second of it. I go back to Kentucky on Saturday and I already miss New York...How is that possible??? I am in NYC right now! Just the thought of leaving the city makes me to press a fast forward button to when I will be here next. LOL, wouldn't that be nice?
I've done just about anything and everything all fashionistas would want to do while in the city: strolls down 5th Avenue, fashion classes, shopping in Soho (twice...hehe), and a photo shoot on the top of the Rockefeller Center. The Rock definitely has been one of my favorite parts of this trip. Everyone is so quiet at the top, and the views are breath taking. A little FYI: The lines at the Rock are super short depending on what time of day you go, and this is probably the best view of the city. My friends and I went around 7pm-9pm. This was perfect because we saw the city before sunset, during sunset, and a few minutes after it was dark. Around 9pm it started to get crowded, so I don't know if I would recommend going during that time. Keep in mind that this is summer, so the best times to go probably change with the season.
Now let's dive into the fashion! How do you wear all black in summer? Wearing all black, and pairing it with a dark lip can be a bold move, especially when it's not fall or winter. What better place to be a risk taker than in NYC? Being colorless can get boring unless you style it right, so it is essential to mix it up by wearing a few statement pieces. I paired my black Seven For All Mankind jeans with this super cute boxy black shirt. I would classify this shirt as the statement piece for this look, but I still wanted to jazz it up some more. I did this by adding my new Chanel earrings, and a hat.... Of course I needed a hat, because manHATtan...ha. Never forget, accessories are EVERYTHING!! ALSO OH MY FREAKING FRACK these earrings! I saw them at a vintage Chanel store in Soho and instantly fell in love. Sorry boys, my heart's taken.
Ta-ta for now!! I'm off to bite into another day in The Big Apple...

Hello everyone!!! Funny/tragic story (and when I say tragic, I mean tragic for my now empty wallet): Thursday, Sephora opened an hour early to release the new Urban Decay NAKED Smoky palette. Naturally, the makeup junkie in me HAD to go check it out before anyone else. At 7 a.m. my alarm went off, and for any summer-sleep-deprived teen, like myself, waking up at 7 a.m. is equivalent to pure death... so of course, I accidentally fell back asleep. ONE HOUR LATER (please, for all that is good in the world, say that in the Spongebob voice) I woke up in pure panic. WHAT'S A BEAUTY BLOGGER TO DO IF SEPHORA IS CRAZY CROWDED WITH OTHER MAKEUP ADDICTS?? With that being said, and Sephora opening in 30 minutes, I jumped out of bed and drove like a mad woman only to find that myself, and the friend I brought with me, were the only people in line... Good thing I didn't get to the mall two hours early, and got that extra hour of BEAUTY SLEEP. Long story short, when the workers opened the glorious doors to heaven I told myself that I was only going to swatch the new palette, but not buy it (lol). I repeat: NOT BUY IT. But of course, 30 minutes later and a vanish of $54 I was walking out of there with the new NAKED palette. Tragic. Yet, holding all four palettes has never felt so good.
Now that I have the palette I am going review it, rate it, find tutorials on it, list my favorite colors, and basically anything you could ever wish for in NAKED SMOKY 101.
My review: At a quick glance the palette looks similar to the NAKED and NAKED 2 palettes. After playing with the Smoky palette it is in fact different, somewhat. This palette is a good mixture of the NAKED and NAKED 2 because it has the dark browns like the 2, but it also has the blue undertones as in the first palette. There are a few more dark colors, but that is to be expected considering this is the Smoky palette. There are also four new matte shades (yeeeeehawww) vs only two matte shades in each of the other palettes. The packaging is a m a z i n g. This is my favorite packaging of all time. It's strong and sturdy, like the 2 and 3, but it has the magnetic closure, like the first palette. Plus, it has a super cool design on the front and the bottom is transparent. Should you buy this palette? Yes.
Rate: If you love, love, love makeup like me- then yes buy this palette. If you are on the fence about which palette to get my recommendations is the first one, and the Smoky. I also really like the NAKED 3, but that doesn't always work for all skin tones and eye colors. I know some people are hesitant about the Smoky pallet because it does give you a dramatic look, but you can 100% get a day time look too. AND THE BRUSH- HOLY MOLY- the brush it comes with is what sold me.
My favorite colors: the matte shades. Need I say more?My prediction is that the next NAKED palette will be all matte- PLEASE???
I've been on the hunt for the best tutorials using this palette. After searching and searching for the best of the best I've put this little list together for you guys. Maybe this will persuade you to buy it!
This tutorial by @SonaGasparian is my favorite.

Hi guys! This past week I went to Eagle University. Eagle U is a week long program for students that teaches them about goal setting, career paths, and self confidence. We were taught that everyday we should tell ourselves that we are a 10 and no one can effect that. I had a ton fun and learned so much! At the end of the week, one person from each group had to give a talk in front of everyone that attended the program...And one of those people were me! I spoke about my blog and the goals I plan to achieve for the fashion industry. I decided to share my speech with you guys!
**side note: I come from the Mortenson family (if you're from KY you've probably heard of Mortenson Family Dental??...yep that's us) SO BASICALLY everyone in my family works with teeth WHICH MEANS I am wanted to carry on the family tradition, haha.
"Hi. My name is Emma Engilman and I am 16 years old. Growing up in the Mortenson family and deciding not to go into the dental field is almost sinful, as you can imagine. Because of this, it has always been my goal to do what I love but to do my absolute best at it.
In the seventh grade I was 20 pounds heavier, three inches shorter, and a million times more insecure. I would compare myself to the stunning, skinny, and 'perfect' models who were across every billboard, magazine, and TV show. I saw myself as 3 rather than a 10. I always knew I wanted to make...
My name is Emma Engilman. The goal of my blog is to encourage self confidence and stray away from societies definition of "beauty." I refuse to retouch my appearance in Photoshop, so enjoy my flaws because they make me-- me!
