get the lookHello, hello, hello! Ah, it's officially summer. You know what that means? Warm weather, sunglasses, aaand shorts! When I'm getting in my busy (and by busy I mean lazy) summer routine I tend to not dress up as much and just throw on some shorts and a t-shirt. And then when it's time to put on a cute outfit featuring my shorts, I'm clueless! What the freak! I can't be the only one who feels this way, right? That's exactly why I'm here to help! Here is my summer guide on how to dress up any pair of shorts. *DISCLAIMER* Wanna make this post more fun? Each time I say 'shorts' in this blog post eat a cookie... or do a jumping jack, I don't care-- personally, the cookie sounds more exciting. 1. Choose a pair of shorts that are flattering and stylish. -Whenever I go summer pants shopping I always, always, buy a pair of shorts that are a size too big. Shorts that squeeze you around the thigh aren't flattering. To make any outfit look good, your clothes have to fit properly... simple, right? Also, choose a pair of shorts that have some sort of stylistic appeal to them: rips, prints, patterns, etc. This will give your outfit an extra pop of style. 2. Simplicity is key. -Don't feel like your top has to be anything extraordinary. Look, I'm just wearing a plain white button up-- simple, yet it gets the job done. Don't feel like you have to wear something crazy to get all dressed up. While you can rock the patterns and sequins, I prefer more simple clothing and then spicing things up with my accessories. 3. Accessories (and shoes!) are everything when wearing shorts. -Accessories are the perfect way to add something extra to any pair of shorts. It's summer, so the first obvious accessories are sunglasses. Aren't my maroon Free People sunnies fun? I loveeee them. When it comes to jewelry I always prefer either statement earrings, a simple necklace, and/or some rings. In this look I went with my Chanel earrings and two of my favorite rings. While neither of those pieces are necessarily 'statements,' my main accessories were my TopShop shoes. Because these shoes are so loud and in your face it was essential that I didn't do too much with my jewelry. Shoes make or break an outfit, so choose wisely! I'm an addict when it comes to funky shoes (hints the silver cages wrapped around my feet). Hope this helped! XOXO, Emma Engilman FOLLOW THE LITTLE LACE DRESS:
